Here is my good helicopter buddy Dale Allen. We met in 1992 when we were both working for Papillion Hawaiian Helicopters in Waikaloa on the Big Island of Hawaii. At that time, Dale was a AnP helicopter mechanic at Papillion with a fixed wing license. I was a Van Pilot (as in hotel pickup driver) at Papillion working on my commercial Rotor Craft license as I was spending my winter away from the cold of NE PA since my ice cream store was closed.
I gave Dale his first stick time in the R22 cruising up the Waikaloa coast, from then we seem to always hit it off both at work n socially.
Below is a shot looking SW off Dale n his lovely wife Mary Lue's lanai (deck). As U can C, it is a tad hazy today (2-26-99) so the even greater view to the S is hazed in even more. I will save a spot below to post a pic of the awesome view from Dale's lanai I take in the near future.
Dale climbed up the helicopter ropes as all civilian pilots do. He got his Pvt. add on Rotor Craft, built up his hours in RC n Fixed Wing Craft finally earning his Com R/C. Then Dale changed AnP jobs to company that he would be able to do maintenance flights n log up more time (turbine time too boot). So before I knew it, this lead to that n Dale was flying air tours in a Hugh 5oo............
Below is Dale n his lovely wiffee Mary Lue. Sad to say this foto was taken in the back seat of my rental car as we were driving him to the A/P just a tad more then 24 after we arrived. His dad is terminal ill for the past year n sad to report is seems Dale's dad's time may be near..... So when Dale for a call from N Carolina, I was happy to help him make a fast exit back to the mainland...... Any way, happy to have spent 26 hours with my bestest helicopter bud, so me is always better than none.........
